Faiz Ahmad Faiz

By Fatima on August 1, 2024August 2, 2024

“His work challenges the dictatorship of the ruling class by often expressing greater concern for the poor whilst also criticizing the latter for their indifference towards their lamentable lifestyle. ”

Faiz Ahmad Faiz (1911-1984)

Known for his progressive and insistent Marxist views concerning the socio-political dynamic of Pakistan, Faiz’s poetry posits a rebuttal to the conniving façade of the bourgeoisie class. His work challenges the dictatorship of the ruling class by often expressing greater concern for the poor whilst also criticizing the latter for their indifference towards their lamentable lifestyle. Till date, Faiz’s poetry is appreciated for its socio-political relevance, depiction of complex narratives in a simpler manner, and its immense usage of symbolic language of expression.

As an author that never backed down from raising his voice against social injustices, his commendable poems like “کتے” and “بول” urges the nation to dismantle its self-imposed incapability and rise above the hapless circumstances that have been thrust upon it by the corrupt government.

Lines like ، “بول کہ لب آزاد ہیں تیرے” and captivate the readers into contemplating their decisions and their responsibilities as members of a society – a nation at large. For this very reason, Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s poetry not only remains relevant, but also universally acknowledged in today’s literary world.
